SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Thairo Estrada, a player for Colorado, sustained a fracture in his right wrist when he was struck by a pitch delivered by Texas’ Kumar Rocker. Manager Bud Black announced on Friday that Estrada could be sidelined for four to eight weeks as a result.

Injured by a 97.1 mph sinker during the first pitch of Thursday’s game, Estrada was anticipated to fill the role as the Rockies’ second baseman for their opening game against Tampa Bay scheduled for March 28.

The 29-year-old has played the previous four seasons for San Francisco, achieving a .217 batting average with nine home runs and 47 RBIs last season. His time on the field was interrupted by a sprained left wrist forcing him out from June 27 to July 9 and once again from July 25 to August 19. He was outrighted to Triple-A Sacramento on August 30 and subsequently elected free agency on October 1.

Throughout parts of six seasons, encompassing his tenure with both the New York Yankees (2019-20) and the Giants (2021-24), Estrada has managed a .251 batting average, with a total of 48 home runs, 195 RBIs, and 52 stolen bases over 469 games.
