PANAMA CITY — A significant earthquake occurred off Panama’s Pacific shoreline, impacting the central region of the country on Friday, but it largely went unnoticed in the capital city.
The tremor was pinpointed approximately 76 miles (123 kilometers) south-southeast of Burica in the Pacific Ocean. It registered a magnitude of 6.2, as recorded by the United States Geological Survey, and had a relatively shallow depth, reaching just 6 miles (10 kilometers).
The National Civil Defense Service reported that the shaking was detected across various provinces in central Panama. However, there have been no immediate accounts of injuries or damage as a result of the seismic event.
