PARIS — Gisèle Pelicot, who emerged as a powerful emblem in the battle against sexual violence following a dramatic court case in France last year, is poised to share her story with the world through her upcoming memoir. Set to be published in January 2026, “A Hymn to Life” will be available in English, French, and an additional 20 languages, as confirmed by the British publisher, the Bodley Head, in a statement released late on Thursday.

Pelicot expressed deep appreciation for the immense support she has received since the trial’s commencement and is eager to provide a personal account of her experiences. “Through this book, my aim is to impart a message of resilience and bravery to those enduring difficult challenges. May they find freedom from shame, and eventually, rediscover joy and tranquility in life,” she stated.

In a shocking and high-profile trial held last year in the southern French city of Avignon, 51 men were convicted, with sentences ranging from three to 20 years. This case provoked widespread discussions and a national confrontation of rape culture in France.

Gisèle Pelicot’s ex-husband, Dominique Pelicot, along with most of his co-defendants, faced convictions for a prolonged period of sexual assault. This abuse spanned nearly a decade and involved drugging Gisèle’s food and drinks to render her unconscious. Another co-defendant was found guilty of drugging and raping his own wife, with Dominique Pelicot’s assistance.

Renowned for her bravery, Gisèle Pelicot inspired many by insisting on a public trial for these men. The evidence presented included distressing homemade videos captured by Dominique Pelicot inside their shared retirement home in Mazan, a small town in Provence, and other locations.
