The beloved animated film “Coco” is set to receive a sequel, as announced by the CEO of The Walt Disney Company. Pixar Animation Studios has embarked on the development of “Coco 2,” aiming to bring back the enchanting world that captivated audiences.
During a shareholders meeting, the CEO expressed excitement about this new project, indicating that even in its early stages, “Coco 2” promises to deliver the humor, heart, and adventure that fans have come to expect. This anticipated sequel will reunite the original’s creative team, including directors Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina.
The first “Coco” film follows the story of Miguel, a young boy with aspirations of becoming a musician. His journey unfolds in the Land of the Dead as he seeks to uncover more about his family’s past. The movie achieved considerable success, grossing over $814 million globally and earning accolades, including two Oscars for Best Animated Feature and Best Song for the memorable “Remember Me.” The film also secured Golden Globe and BAFTA awards for Best Animated Film.
Notably, the original “Coco” marked a significant milestone for Pixar, featuring a leading character from a minority group, with an almost entirely Latino cast, a rarity for major American animated productions.
Enthusiasts of the film can look forward to its sequel, which is reportedly targeting a 2029 release for its theatrical debut. This news brings anticipation and excitement as fans await yet another magical journey into the vibrant world created by Pixar.
