SAN FRANCISCO — Stephen Curry, the standout player for the Golden State Warriors, is set to miss the team’s opening game of their upcoming road series due to a pelvic injury.
Curry sustained this injury during Thursday night’s narrow 117-114 victory over the Toronto Raptors when he fell to the ground in the third quarter.
A subsequent MRI examination conducted on Friday revealed that there was no structural damage, with Curry being diagnosed with a pelvic contusion. As a result, Curry will be absent for Saturday’s match against Atlanta and is scheduled for further evaluation on Monday.
The Warriors are embarking on a six-game road trip, with their second game slated for next Tuesday in Miami. Presently, the team holds the sixth position in the Western Conference and is striving to maintain their spot in the top six to bypass the play-in tournament.
Curry had recently returned to play on Thursday after missing Tuesday’s game for rest. Unfortunately, the injury occurred as he was driving for a layup towards the end of the third quarter, resulting in a harsh landing on his tailbone. Post the incident, Curry stayed on the ground for several moments before being assisted to stand and escorted to the locker room.
After the game, Warriors’ head coach Steve Kerr mentioned that Curry was eager to reenter the game, but the staff decided against it to avoid any further risk.
“He thought he might be able to come back,” Kerr commented. “We just decided not to risk anything. Hopefully, it’s not bad.”
A celebrated 11-time All-Star and two-time NBA scoring leader, Curry has been leading the Warriors with an average of 24.3 points per game this season.
