EDMONTON, Alberta — The Edmonton Oilers faced a setback Thursday night as their captain, Connor McDavid, suffered a lower-body injury during the home match against the Western Conference-leading Winnipeg Jets. This led to McDavid being ruled out for the entire third period of the game.
Details on the injury’s severity have not been disclosed by the Oilers. The incident occurred as McDavid was pursuing the puck in the Jets’ zone when he was challenged by Winnipeg defenseman Josh Morrissey.
Despite the injury, McDavid had an impactful game, having assisted on Jeff Skinner’s goal during the second period, thereby extending his impressive point streak to 13 consecutive games. Over this period, McDavid has notched up four goals and 15 assists, showcasing his invaluable contribution to the team.
Coinciding with McDavid’s injury, the Oilers also took precautionary measures by holding out another key player, Leon Draisaitl, the NHL’s leading scorer. Draisaitl was injured in a dominant 7-1 victory over Utah on Tuesday. According to Coach Kris Knoblauch, Draisaitl’s condition is being monitored on a day-to-day basis.
