NEW YORK — In a significant move, Fordham University has decided to terminate head coach Keith Urgo from his position following ongoing investigations into alleged recruitment infractions. This decision was announced after the Rams concluded their season marking a second consecutive losing streak, finishing at the bottom of the Atlantic 10 conference.

Charlie Guthrie, the athletic director at Fordham, conveyed the school’s intention to conduct a nationwide search to find a suitable replacement for Urgo. Urgo had climbed the ranks from an assistant coach to head coach after Kyle Neptune departed for Villanova in 2022. During Urgo’s debut year, the team performed commendably with a 25-8 record, sharing second place in the Atlantic 10 standings, which won Urgo the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year title.

However, the subsequent seasons witnessed a decline in performance, with the team slipping to a 13-20 record last year. This season saw the Rams grappling through a challenging period, losing nine of their last ten matches, bringing their season tally to 12-21. Earlier this year, on January 16, Fordham announced that they had chosen to suspend Urgo for four games in light of the recruitment inquiry they are conducting alongside the NCAA. In his absence, Tray Woodall, the associate head coach, took over the team’s responsibilities, guiding them to achieve a balanced 2-2 record during the suspension.
