In a strategic move focused on nurturing young talent, Chelsea is investing significantly in two emerging stars from Sporting Portugal, with reported expenditures exceeding 74 million euros ($80 million). The Premier League club has officially reached an accord with the Portuguese team for the acquisition of Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo.
Geovany Quenda, a promising 17-year-old winger, is set to join Chelsea for just over 52 million euros. Meanwhile, Dario Essugo, a 20-year-old midfielder, will make the move for a fee surpassing 22 million euros. However, Quenda will continue to play for Sporting until the conclusion of the next season. In parallel, Essugo will spend time on loan with the Spanish club Las Palmas before arriving at Stamford Bridge next season.
These acquisitions are part of a broader strategy by Chelsea, targeting young, highly rated players. This comes shortly after the club secured the transfers of other teenage talents, such as 17-year-old Brazilian Estevao Willian and 17-year-old Ecuadorian Kendry Paez. Through these investments, Chelsea is underscoring its commitment to building a competitive team anchored on youthful promise and potential.
