Watson propels Loyola Chicago past San Jose State 73-70

    SAN JOSE, Calif. — Des Watson delivered an impressive performance, scoring 24 points in Loyola Chicago’s narrow victory over San Jose State, finishing 73-70 on Wednesday night in the NIT.

    In addition to his scoring, Watson played a key role for the Ramblers (23-11) by pulling down five rebounds. Miles Rubin contributed 14 points, mainly by hitting 7 of 8 shots from the field, though he struggled at the free-throw line, missing all three attempts. Rubin also collected seven rebounds to aid Loyola Chicago. Another key player was Jalen Quinn, who efficiently scored nine points, making 3 of 4 field-goal attempts and all three of his free throws.

    On the San Jose State side, Josh Uduje led with 18 points and managed two steals, showing his defensive prowess. Donavan Yap gave a strong effort, scoring 16 points and securing three steals, while Sadaidriene Hall contributed 14 points, six rebounds, and two steals, offering a well-rounded game.

    In the first half, Watson put up 10 points, helping the Ramblers go into halftime with a 42-35 lead. As the game drew to a close, it was Latrell Davis who scored Loyola Chicago’s final six points, ensuring the team held on to their slim margin.
