SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Jazz claimed a much-needed victory as they ended a daunting 10-game losing streak by defeating the Washington Wizards 128-112 on Wednesday night. Kyle Filipowski shone brightly, leading with 21 points, while teammate Keyonte George contributed 20 points. This matchup featured two teams struggling at the bottom of their respective conferences. Prior to this game, the Wizards had been riding a slight high, winning six out of their last eleven games, which had placed the Jazz at the bottom of the league standings.
In a valiant effort for the Wizards, Colby Jones made an impressive mark by scoring a career-high 24 points. Jones, who was recently acquired from the Sacramento team, had limited playtime in his previous team as a seldom-used reserve. Meanwhile, rookie Alex Sarr made a notable impact for Washington, tallying 22 points and nine rebounds before sitting out the final quarter.
Wednesday’s match offered several takeaways, particularly for the Wizards, who completed a seven-game road stint with a 3-4 record. It was recently announced by the team that Corey Kispert, an important reserve player, would be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to surgery on a torn ligament in his left thumb. Kispert has been averaging 11.6 points across 61 games this season.
On the Jazz’s end, this win marks the end of two major losing streaks this season, having experienced an eight-game streak back in January as well.
A key moment unfolded when Brice Sensabaugh sank a three-pointer from the corner just before halftime, allowing the Jazz to edge ahead with a 64-63 lead. Following this, Utah only briefly trailed in the second half, maintaining control for most of the game.
However, not all performances stood out positively. Jordan Poole, who leads Washington in scoring, struggled significantly, hitting just 1 out of 11 attempts from the field and missing all nine of his 3-point tries, ultimately scoring only two points. In contrast, Anthony Gill from the Wizards put up his best numbers of the season with 10 points in 24 minutes of play.
Looking ahead, the Wizards will return home to face Orlando this Friday, while the Jazz will host Boston on the same night.
