ST. MORITZ, Switzerland — French skier Perrine Laffont secured victory in the moguls competition at the Freestyle World Championships on Wednesday, clinching her third consecutive gold medal in this event.
Laffont had previously topped the podium in the moguls in both 2021 and 2023, bringing her total world championship golds to six, which includes three titles in dual moguls.
Japanese athlete Hinako Tomitaka claimed the silver medal, while Canada’s Maia Schwinghammer earned bronze.
This win marked a triumphant comeback for Laffont, following her decision to take a break from the competitive circuit last season.
In the men’s moguls, Ikuma Horishima from Japan emerged victorious, denying Canadian skier Mikael Kingsbury a fourth consecutive world title in the men’s moguls category.
Kingsbury, a living legend in men’s mogul skiing, took the silver, with South Korea’s Jung Daeyoon capturing the bronze.
Horishima’s win adds another accolade to his career, having also won the moguls and dual moguls titles in 2017, making this his third gold at the World Championships.
He additionally secured a bronze medal in moguls at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
