SAN FRANCISCO — Stephen Curry is set to miss the Golden State Warriors’ matchup against Milwaukee on Tuesday evening, with Coach Steve Kerr describing the absence as necessary for emotional and mental recuperation.
“He’s been showing signs of tiredness in our recent games, more mentally and emotionally than physically,” Kerr explained prior to the tip-off at Chase Center. “Physically, he seems fine. However, when he’s emotionally drained, it impacts his decision-making and overall performance.”
Initially, Curry was reluctant to the idea of taking a break, which was suggested after the Warriors’ 114-105 setback against the Denver Nuggets on Monday night. Despite playing over 34 minutes in six of the past 10 games, Curry eventually agreed with the coach’s decision.
“We have extensive experience with Steph and understand his needs,” Kerr noted. “Sometimes, a night off is beneficial. He’s definitely earned this respite.”
During the game against the Nuggets, Curry managed to score 20 points but only executed 6 out of 21 shots, hinting at his need for a short break from play. This season, Curry’s stats over the past five games show a 37% field goal rate (32 of 86 attempts) and a 32.2% accuracy from the 3-point line (19 of 59 attempts).
The defeat to Denver ended Golden State’s seven-game winning streak, though the team has displayed strong form, winning 14 of their latest 16 matches.
