TOKYO — Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman was removed from the starting lineup due to discomfort in his left rib prior to the season’s opening game against the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night at the Tokyo Dome.
Originally slated to bat third and cover first base, Freeman’s absence necessitated some adjustments from the Dodgers. The talented first baseman, an eight-time All-Star, finished the previous season hitting .282, with 22 home runs and contributing 89 RBIs.
In response to Freeman’s unexpected withdrawal, the Dodgers reorganized their lineup. Kike Hernandez took over first base responsibilities, while Michael Conforto was positioned in left field.
This game is part of a two-match series in Japan, marking the start of the season for both teams. Notably, the Dodgers were also without shortstop Mookie Betts, who did not participate due to illness.
