NEW ORLEANS — The promising breakout season for Trey Murphy III of the New Orleans Pelicans has come to an untimely end. Murphy sustained a dislocated right shoulder during Monday night’s 127-81 game against the Detroit Pistons. Subsequent MRI results revealed both a torn labrum and a partial tear of his rotator cuff in the affected shoulder. Murphy will be unable to return for the rest of the season. The Pelicans have stated that any further updates regarding his condition will be provided at the appropriate time.

During what was undoubtedly the peak season of his four-year NBA tenure, Murphy achieved notable improvements in his performance metrics. He averaged an impressive 21.2 points per game, marking an increase of 6.4 points compared to last season. In addition, he set personal records with an average of 5.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.

Unfortunately, the Pelicans have faced a series of setbacks this season, with injuries significantly affecting their roster. As a result, the team has been out of playoff contention for a while. Presently, New Orleans holds a record of 18-51 with just 13 games remaining this season.
