WASHINGTON – As the United States gears up for a significant phone call between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard expressed optimism about the ongoing negotiations aimed at ending the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Speaking on Monday, Gabbard emphasized Trump’s anticipation for positive outcomes in these discussions.

Gabbard criticized the approach taken by former President Joe Biden regarding the war in Ukraine, highlighting that Trump’s initiatives towards achieving a ceasefire with Russia stem from a steadfast dedication to peace. “During the previous administration, where this conflict originated, there was a noticeable absence of efforts focused on peace. There was no direct dialogue initiated with Putin and Russia to seek an end to the war. President Trump, in a notably brief time frame, has already made significant strides towards peace, more so than any previous efforts,” Gabbard stated during an interview with India’s NDTV. She further expressed confidence that Trump’s conversation with Putin would be fruitful, grounded in his unwavering dedication to peace.

The discussion between Trump and Putin on Tuesday is viewed as a possible turning point in the quest to resolve the war in Ukraine, as well as a chance for Trump to continue redefining U.S. foreign policy. Gabbard’s India visit is noteworthy; she was the inaugural Hindu elected to Congress, representing Hawaii. In her current role, Gabbard oversees and harmonizes the operations of over a dozen intelligence agencies.

During her visit, Gabbard will address an international conference on security and economics. Her itinerary also includes visits to Japan and Thailand. In her dialogue with NDTV, Gabbard praised the relationship between President Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing both leaders’ dedication to fortifying their nations’ alliance.

“With President Trump’s leadership in the United States, coupled with Prime Minister Modi’s longstanding guidance in India, we have two leaders who are close friends, focused on enhancing shared goals and mutual interests,” Gabbard remarked.
