MADRID — Spain’s national soccer federation has announced that midfielder Marc Casadó and central defender Iñigo Martínez will miss the upcoming UEFA Nations League quarter-final due to injuries. Spain, the defending champion, is set to play against the Netherlands, with an away match on Thursday and a home game on Sunday.

Casadó sustained a right knee injury during Barcelona’s 4-2 victory over Atletico Madrid in a recent Spanish league match. Due to this injury, national team head coach Luis de la Fuente has called up Aleix García from Bayer Leverkusen to fill Casadó’s spot in the squad.

Similarly, Barcelona defender Martínez is also sidelined because of a right knee issue, despite completing the match against Atletico. He will be substituted by Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth, whose recent performances at the under-21 level caught the attention of the national selectors.

Spain will look to retain their title in the Nations League with these roster changes as they face a challenging opponent in the Netherlands across two legs later this week.
