In an event held in Atlanta, Maggie Baird was honored with the Superhero for Earth award by the Captain Planet Foundation. Known as the mother of popular musicians Billie Eilish and Finneas, Baird is deeply committed to tackling issues related to environmental conservation and food insecurity. She leads the non-profit organization, Support + Feed, which has made significant strides with a strong presence in 11 American cities, alongside growing partnerships in regions like Europe, the United Kingdom, and Australia.
Baird emphasized that she’s been dedicated to addressing these pressing challenges for many years. However, the involvement of her Grammy-winning children has given her message a broader reach. She remarked, “Our climate is in jeopardy and it’s crucial to reform our food systems. While working towards larger scale goals, we also celebrate smaller victories by supporting people in their everyday struggles to secure essentials like food.”
The Captain Planet Foundation, rooted in Atlanta, aims to equip young people globally with initiatives to combat environmental issues. It has facilitated the participation of over 1.7 million children in its various projects, including school gardens. Established in 1991, the organization was co-founded by the media tycoon Ted Turner.
Expressing her gratitude, Baird commented, “I hold the Captain Planet organization in high regard. Their recognition of the work we do at Support + Feed is what truly matters to me.”
