SANTA CLARA, Calif. — In a recent development, Kyle Juszczyk has rejoined the San Francisco 49ers under a new two-year contract valued at $8 million. This news comes merely days after his previous release from the team. According to a source in the know about the agreement, this decision has yet to be officially declared by the 49ers. Initially revealed by a sports network, the information has gained attention from various media outlets.
Earlier in the week, Juszczyk was officially released to avoid giving him a $4.1 million salary for this season, in addition to possible bonuses amounting to $500,000 for offseason participation and per-game appearances. Although this decision posed a $3.6 million dead cap hit for the 49ers, they have strategically opted to re-sign him under a new contract. Last season, Juszczyk was in a similar position, facing potential release but resolved to stay by accepting a pay adjustment.
The 33-year-old fullback has been integral to the 49ers since he was among the first recruits of the Kyle Shanahan-John Lynch era in 2017. Juszczyk has greatly contributed to the team’s offensive strategies, displaying notable versatility on the field.
Despite the declining use of fullbacks in modern football, Juszczyk has maintained a significant presence, participating in roughly half of the offensive plays during his tenure with San Francisco. His performance has earned him accolades, securing Pro Bowl selections for all eight years with the 49ers and nine times overall. His exceptional skills gained him recognition as a first-team All-Pro in 2023 and a second-team position in 2024 after the reintroduction of fullbacks in All-Pro honors for the last two years.
In the previous season, Juszczyk’s contributions included 19 receptions with a total of 200 yards and two touchdowns. Additionally, he managed 26 rushing yards coupled with a rushing touchdown. During his eight-season association with the 49ers, he has achieved 184 catches translating to 1,895 yards along with 13 receiving touchdowns. His rushing achievements encompass 237 yards and six touchdowns.
