Utah Valley advances past Seattle U with Toolson’s 18 points

    PARADISE, Nev. — In a compelling matchup during the Western Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals, top-ranked Utah Valley emerged victorious over fifth-seeded Seattle U with a score of 68-55 on Friday. The Wolverines’ win was greatly bolstered by Tanner Toolson, who netted 18 points, secured six rebounds, and snagged three steals.

    Joining Toolson in the standout performances for Utah Valley (25-7) was Carter Welling, who contributed 17 points and collected eight rebounds. Trevan Leonhardt added eight points, successfully hitting 2 of his 5 field-goal attempts, including 1 of 4 from beyond the arc, and was efficient from the free-throw line, making 3 of 4 shots. This triumph marked the eighth consecutive victory for the Wolverines.

    Seattle U’s effort was spearheaded by Kobe Williamson, who scored 20 points and recorded two blocks for the Redhawks (14-18). Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe chipped in with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Brayden Maldonado ended the game with eight points and two steals.

    Despite a competitive first half, Utah Valley took control with just over five minutes left before the break and kept the lead throughout. At halftime, the score stood at 34-24, with Toolson already contributing 14 points. In the second half, Utah Valley increased their edge by three more points, thanks in part to Welling’s impressive 12-point performance during this period.
