In Atlantic City, N.J., Dejour Reaves dominated the court by scoring 23 points, helping Iona secure an 81-73 win over the top-seeded Quinnipiac during the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday.
Alongside his scoring, Reaves contributed with six rebounds, showcasing a strong performance for the Gaels (17-16). His teammate, Adam Njie, also made significant impacts by scoring 21 points, making six out of 13 field goals, including one successful three-pointer out of three attempts. Njie was also impeccable from the free-throw line, hitting all eight of his attempts, and provided six assists throughout the game. Yaphet Moundi played efficiently as well, finishing eight of eleven from the field, scoring a total of 17 points, and grabbing 11 rebounds.
Quinnipiac (20-13) was led by the efforts of Amarri Monroe, who scored 25 points alongside six rebounds and two steals. Jaden Zimmerman added to their fight with 17 points, and Alexis Reyes contributed 10 points to the scoreboard.
Iona quickly gained a foothold with a 17-6 lead early in the first half. Bolstered by Reaves’s 13 points in the first half, they maintained a firm position, leading 41-31 at halftime. As the game progressed, Njie solidified Iona’s victory with a pivotal layup at the 7:19 mark in the second half, giving Iona a lead they maintained until the final whistle at 61-59.
