MONACO — Kibiwott Kandie, a former world record holder in the half-marathon, has been suspended and is currently under investigation due to his failure to submit a doping sample, as announced by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) on Friday.

The AIU has accused Kandie of evading, refusing, or failing to comply with sample collection protocols, which are essential to maintaining fair play in athletics.

While details about this case are scarce, the AIU has not yet provided a timeline or further information on the disciplinary measures that may follow.

Kandie made headlines back in December 2020 when he set a half-marathon world record with a remarkable time of 57 minutes and 32 seconds at an event in Valencia, Spain. Although this record has since been surpassed, it remains third on the current all-time list.

In addition to his half-marathon achievements, Kandie secured a bronze medal for Kenya in the 10,000-meter race during the 2022 Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham, England.

The incident underscores the ongoing challenges in athletics to ensure integrity and fairness within the sport.
