BRENTWOOD, N.H. — A notable mystery author has been sentenced to serve between three and a half to seven years in prison after admitting guilt to charges involving child sexual abuse materials. Brendan DuBois, age 65, faced an indictment from a county grand jury last year and recently appeared in a New Hampshire court. Prosecutors agreed to dismiss two out of six counts of possession as part of a negotiated plea deal.

DuBois, who was arrested in Exeter last July, has remained in custody for over eight months, which will be credited towards his prison sentence. In addition to serving time, he is required to register as a sex offender. Court records indicate that the judge has suggested a sexual offender treatment assessment for DuBois during his stay in state prison. Completion of the assessment or a determination that treatment is unnecessary could result in a suspension of part of his minimum sentence.

Efforts to contact his attorney, Harry Starbranch, for a statement were made via email on Friday. DuBois previously hosted a website stating his status as a New York Times bestselling author, with 29 novels to his name. He collaborated with James Patterson on several works, including “Cross Down,” “Count Down,” “The Summer House,” and “Blowback.” However, his website is no longer operational.

Severn River Publishing has announced the removal of DuBois’s books from its online store, reflecting the fallout from the charges against him.
