In Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, a tragic incident unfolded as a British citizen lost his life after being hit by a vehicle from President William Ruto’s motorcade. Edgar Charles Frederick, who was 79 years old, faced this unfortunate end on Thursday amidst the presidential convoy’s journey to a public event.
Following the incident, Kenyan authorities took the driver responsible into custody, but he was subsequently released on bail. Michael Muchiri, a spokesperson for the police, confirmed these developments on Friday. Meanwhile, the British High Commission is reportedly in communication with local authorities regarding the incident.
The accident has sparked significant outrage on social media platforms, with many Kenyans expressing their anger over the dangerous speeds at which the presidential motorcade travels, especially in densely populated areas. Videos circulating online captured the aftermath, depicting the injured Frederick lying on the road with severe bleeding from his head. The vehicle involved did not halt after the collision.
According to the police, the president’s convoy consists of numerous vehicles that travel at high speeds, primarily for security purposes. Michael Muchiri also disclosed that Frederick was in Kenya for a personal visit to his sister and nephew residing in the country. He mentioned that an autopsy would be conducted to determine more details about the circumstances of Frederick’s death.
