DALLAS — The Dallas Mavericks are facing another setback as forward Olivier-Maxence Prosper has had to undergo surgery on his right wrist, effectively ending his season. This misfortune is part of a string of injuries afflicting the team since Luka Doncic was traded away. The announcement came from the team on Thursday night, one day following the operation, confirming that Prosper would be unavailable for the remainder of the season.

In his second season with the Mavericks, Prosper’s playing time significantly increased due to the team’s growing list of injuries. His opportunity for increased responsibility came as he started his second game of the season, right after Dallas traded Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis.

However, Davis’s entry into the team met a bump as he injured his groin during his first game with the Mavericks. This injury was just one of many problems Dallas has faced. Prosper was one of eight players unable to participate in the latest game, a 126-116 defeat by the San Antonio Spurs.

Prosper was sidelined after logging 25 minutes in a March 5 game against Milwaukee, where the team suffered a 30-point loss. As a first-round pick in 2023, Prosper averaged 3.9 points and 2.4 rebounds over 11 minutes this season.

The absence of Anthony Davis continues, and the Mavericks find themselves in a precarious position, tenth in the Western Conference standings, barely holding onto a play-in tournament spot. Last season, the Mavs made it to the NBA Finals but were defeated by Boston.
