    In a thrilling Mid-American Conference Tournament quarterfinal, Kent State secured a hard-fought 73-66 win over Western Michigan on Thursday night in Cleveland. Off the bench, Marquis Barnett delivered a standout performance, contributing 18 crucial points to pave the way for the Golden Flashes’ success.

    Aside from his scoring prowess, Barnett also contributed five rebounds, playing a significant role in the third-seeded Kent State’s triumph. With this victory, the team, now boasting a 22-10 record, advances to face the tournament’s top seed, Akron, in the semifinals scheduled for Friday.

    Cian Medley was another key player for Kent State, adding 13 points, snagging five rebounds, assisting five times, and making three steals. Jalen Sullinger also chimed in with 13 points, ensuring a balanced offensive output for the Golden Flashes.

    On the other side of the court, Owen Lobsinger led the charge for Western Michigan, scoring 16 points. Contributions from Chansey Willis Jr., who tallied 12 points, six rebounds, and seven assists, along with Donovan Williams, who also scored 12 points, kept the Broncos in contention. However, with a final record of 12-20, the Broncos saw their tournament journey come to an end.

    Kent State established a lasting lead with 9:13 left on the clock in the first half. Barnett was instrumental during this period, scoring all of his points before halftime, helping the Golden Flashes conclude the first half with a commanding 43-25 lead.
