NEW YORK — Calgary Flames forward Connor Zary has been handed a two-game suspension, ruling him out of upcoming matches without receiving his pay. This action follows an elbowing incident involving Vancouver Canucks defenseman Elias Pettersson during the Canucks’ narrow 4-3 victory in a shootout over the Flames.

On Wednesday evening, at 11:19 of the first period, Zary was given a minor penalty for interference. The incident took place when Pettersson managed to strip Nazem Kadri of possession just as he was releasing the puck and moving past the blue line. In retaliation, Zary delivered a blindside blow to Pettersson, which resulted in the penalty being called.

As a result of the suspension, 23-year-old Zary stands to lose $8,993 in salary. This incident highlights the ongoing efforts to maintain discipline and safety in the game.

Pettersson proved instrumental to his team’s performance, first netting the equalizing goal with 6:44 left in regulation time. He further showcased his skill in the shootout, converting his opportunity in the first round. Teammate Conor Garland secured the victory for the Canucks by scoring in the fourth round of the shootout.
