MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Miami Dolphins have strengthened their running back corps by securing a seasoned player, Alexander Mattison, through a recent agreement. This development was shared by a source familiar with the situation, who wishes to remain anonymous since the contract is yet to be officially finalized.
Standing at 5-foot-11 and weighing 220 pounds, Mattison adds striking mass to complement the swift De’Von Achane. During his initial five years in the NFL, he played for Minnesota, achieving a total of 2,370 rushing yards with an average of 4.1 yards per carry and 11 touchdowns. Last season, he contributed 420 yards and four touchdowns while playing for Las Vegas.
Leading the Dolphins with 907 rushing yards in the 2024 season, Achane will continue as the primary running back. Additionally, second-year running back Jaylen Wright is expected to see significant playtime. The departure of seasoned player Raheem Mostert from the team’s roster took place last month.
Further enhancing their offensive stability, the Dolphins welcomed veteran guard James Daniels and offensive lineman Larry Borom. They also strengthened their receiving unit with the acquisition of Nick Westbrook-Ikhine.
Westbrook-Ikhine, who agreed to a two-year contract, comes off an impressive season with Tennessee, scoring a personal best of nine touchdowns in 2024. Among his accomplishments was a notable 98-yard touchdown against the Vikings, which was the NFL’s longest touchdown last year. His 6-foot-2 frame adds significant presence to the Dolphins’ receiver group, supporting star players Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
Embarking on his sixth NFL season, Westbrook-Ikhine has thus far dedicated all his professional years to Tennessee, amassing 126 catches covering 1,773 yards and scoring 19 touchdowns.
James Daniels, after spending the last three seasons of a seven-year career with Pittsburgh, answers a need for Miami’s offensive line. This comes after the team’s three guards from the previous season, including Liam Eichenberg, Rob Jones, and Isaiah Wynn, became free agents. Recently, Jones secured a one-year contract with Dallas.
Daniels boasts a record of participating in 90 games, starting in 84, with assignments spread across left guard, center, and right guard positions. On the other hand, Borom, a fifth-round selection by Chicago in 2021, has accumulated experience in 47 games with 27 starts, spread across various positions on the line.
