SEATTLE — In an electrifying NHL match, Brandon Montour scored the fastest overtime goal in league history, propelling the Seattle Kraken to a stunning 5-4 victory over the Montreal Canadiens. This historic score came just four seconds into the extra period on Wednesday night.
The game-winning moment was initiated by Chandler Stephenson, who secured a faceoff win, sending the puck directly to Montour as he swiftly crossed the center line. Montour charged toward Montreal’s goalie, Jakub Dobes, delivering a precise shot that sailed into the top-right corner.
This remarkable goal equals the fastest goal to begin any period in NHL history, a feat previously achieved by three other players during regulation games. Claude Provost first accomplished it in 1957 for Montreal against Boston, followed by Denis Savard for Chicago against Hartford in 1986, and most recently by James van Riemsdyk for Toronto versus Philadelphia in 2014.
Seattle’s performance was noteworthy, as the team managed to rally from a two-goal deficit, leveling the score in the third period before securing their comeback triumph in overtime.
Montour was instrumental in Seattle’s success, tallying two goals and two assists throughout the game, further solidifying his impact on the ice for the Kraken.
