FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — In a decisive step in reshaping their roster, the New England Patriots released veteran center David Andrews on Thursday, marking a significant change under coach Mike Vrabel’s guidance.

With Andrews’ departure, the Patriots’ offensive lineup no longer includes any players from their 2018 Super Bowl-winning team.

Entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2015, Andrews, 32, quickly secured the starting center position, dedicating nine years to New England. During his tenure, he not only achieved a Super Bowl victory in 2016 but also became a reliable presence on the field, with 124 regular-season games and 121 starts, in addition to participating in 12 playoff games, including three consecutive Super Bowls.

His career, however, faced hurdles, particularly in 2019 when blood clots were discovered in his lungs, causing him to miss an entire season. His 2024 season also ended prematurely due to a shoulder injury necessitating surgery.

Recognizing Andrews’ contributions, Patriots owner Robert Kraft lauded his influence and leadership throughout his career. “David Andrews’ career success is a shining example of what every NFL prospect should strive to achieve,” Kraft remarked. “The importance of his leadership during his career cannot be overstated.”

At the time of his release, Andrews had one remaining year on the two-year contract extension he inked in 2024.
