MUNICH — Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich has successfully negotiated a new four-year contract with the club, wrapping up what had been extended discussions. Having joined Bayern in 2015, Kimmich has since become a key player, contributing to the team’s eight Bundesliga titles and the 2020 Champions League victory.
Kimmich’s passion for the game remains undiminished, according to Bayern Munich’s chief executive, Jan-Christian Dreesen. “His hunger remains strong and was evident once again in the Champions League round of 16,” Dreesen commented, emphasizing Kimmich’s determination and work ethic as reflective of Bayern’s core values. The club views Kimmich as a pivotal figure in bridging the outgoing generation of players with an emerging era of talent.
Reports from Germany last month indicated that Bayern had pulled back a previous contract offer amid protracted negotiations. However, Kimmich has now confirmed the extension, citing Bayern as providing “the best environment to achieve my sporting goals … I feel good here and I am not finished here yet.” Beyond his midfield duties, Kimmich is versatile enough to cover the right-back position, boasting one goal and ten assists across 39 appearances in all competitions this season.
Kimmich joins a lineup of Bayern players, including attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala, wing-back Alphonso Davies, and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who have recommitted to the club with new contracts in recent weeks. Nevertheless, Bayern faces further contractual milestones, with decisions looming over forwards Leroy Sané and Thomas Müller, whose contracts are set to lapse at the season’s conclusion.
