SYDNEY — Former NBA star Andrew Bogut is set to join Brian Goorjian’s coaching team at the Sydney Kings, aiming to guide the club, in which he holds part ownership, toward a National Basketball League (NBL) championship in Australia.

With a distinguished 14-year NBA career following his selection as the top pick in the 2005 draft, Bogut boasts a championship with the Golden State Warriors in 2015 and has represented the Australian Boomers in three Olympic Games.
Goorjian, who has already led teams to six NBL titles, previously collaborated with Bogut during his tenure with the Boomers.

“As a three-time Olympian and an NBA champion, Andrew has an exemplary pedigree,” commented Goorjian. “His game knowledge is exceptional, and I’m certain his presence will be highly beneficial to our coaching team.”
Expressing excitement over the addition, Goorjian emphasized his strong rapport with Bogut and his anticipation for the forthcoming season. “I am thrilled and consider it a privilege to have someone of Andrew’s standing beside me. This is set to be a monumental season for the Kings.”
After retiring in 2020, following two seasons with the Kings, Bogut joined the team’s ownership and business operations.
Reflecting on his return, Bogut noted, “Being away from the game reignited my desire to get back on the court. Coaching has always been a passion, and I’m eager to help propel this team forward.”
Bogut’s drafting by the Milwaukee Bucks in 2005 marked him as the first Australian to secure the No. 1 NBA draft pick, and he claimed an NBA championship ten years later with the Warriors. Over his career, he played for the Bucks, Warriors, Dallas Mavericks, and Cleveland Cavaliers, before moving to Sydney in 2018.
The Kings concluded the current NBL season in fifth place among ten teams.
