In a thrilling semifinal of the America East Conference Tournament held in Smithfield, the Bryant Bulldogs secured a spot in the championship game with a 91-78 win over the Albany Great Danes on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs, who entered the tournament as the top seed, will now gear up to face the third-seeded Maine, who secured their position in the championship by overcoming Vermont in the other semifinal clash.
Keyshawn Mitchell was instrumental for Bryant with an outstanding performance, scoring 21 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Another key player, Earl Timberlake, also contributed significantly, scoring 21 points on an impressive 10 of 13 shooting from the field, alongside achieving four blocks. Barry Evans further complemented the team’s effort with 20 points, shooting efficiently and going perfect from the free-throw line.
On the opposite side, Albany showed determination with Amar’e Marshall leading their efforts by scoring 23 points and securing two steals. Kacper Klaczek contributed with 15 points, along with 12 rebounds, two steals, and four blocks, while Kheni Briggs added 15 points and two steals to the Great Danes’ endeavors.
The contest saw Bryant gaining control early, capturing the lead at 14:11 in the first half and never looking back. With Evans spearheading their initial effort by scoring 12 points, the Bulldogs took a 39-33 lead into halftime.
The second half witnessed Bryant extending their advantage significantly to 68-48, propelled by a decisive 10-0 scoring spree.
As the championship game approaches, Bryant readies for a face-off against Maine, aiming to clinch the title.
