RALEIGH, N.C. — The Carolina Hurricanes secured a decisive victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning with a 4-1 win on Tuesday night. Seth Jarvis sparked the momentum with a short-handed goal, while goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov delivered an impressive performance by stopping 23 shots. This triumph marks the Hurricanes’ fifth straight win.

Adding to the scoreboard for Carolina, Jordan Martinook, Jack Roslovic, and Sean Walker each found the back of the net. Tampa Bay, a team that had only lost twice in their past 13 encounters, managed its sole goal courtesy of Gage Goncalves. Their goaltender, Andrei Vasilevskiy, made 27 saves during the game.

Jarvis set the tone early, netting his fourth short-handed goal of the season just 4:29 into the first period. His tally places him one goal behind Florida’s Sam Reinhart for the league’s top spot in short-handed goals. Martinook expanded the Hurricanes’ lead to 2-0 late in the second period. Soon after, Roslovic took advantage of a 2-on-1 and scored his milestone 100th career goal, pushing the lead to 3-0 with mere seconds left in the period.

Goncalves finally gave Tampa Bay a spot on the scoreboard early in the third period, but Walker swiftly restored Carolina’s three-goal advantage just minutes later.

The Hurricanes faced the Lightning without right winger Andrei Svechnikov, who sat out due to an undisclosed injury. Both Svechnikov and defenseman Dmitry Orlov, who also missed the game, were absent from Monday’s practice. The Lightning’s Nikita Kucherov, the third-top scorer in the league with 92 points, did not participate in the final period.

Reviewing the contest, the Lightning struggled offensively despite scoring six times in their prior two victories. Goncalves put an end to their more than 122-minute scoreless span. On the other side, Carolina’s quick start has been a frequent advantage, boasting a 25-7-1 record when tallying the opening goal.

A pivotal moment occurred when Vasilevskiy executed remarkable saves, twice blocking Jarvis during a breakaway, only to see Martinook’s shot squeeze through later, doubling the lead for the Hurricanes.

An important statistic for Carolina: they continue to be undefeated, holding a 21-0 record at home when leading by two goals. Looking ahead, the Lightning anticipate a meeting with Philadelphia on Thursday, while the Hurricanes are scheduled to face Detroit on Friday.
