ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Seeking to bolster their pass-rush capabilities, the Buffalo Bills have reached an agreement with Joey Bosa on a one-year contract valued at $12.6 million. This agreement aims to fill the void created after the release of Von Miller, a move made to manage the team’s salary cap. The contract details were disclosed by a source with inside knowledge, preferring to remain anonymous until the NFL’s new business year is effectively underway on Wednesday. Reports of the agreement surfaced originally via ESPN.

Bosa, renowned for his initial impact as the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year, enters the Bills’ squad after a significant tenure with the Chargers. The Chargers selected him as the third overall pick in the 2016 draft from Ohio State. Over the duration of his nine seasons with them, Bosa established a formidable reputation, although he was released recently in a similar effort by his former team to manage budget constraints.

At the age of 29, Bosa is notably younger than Miller. However, the impact of his play has been somewhat reduced due to various injury setbacks. Since 2016, Bosa has accrued a total of 72 sacks, ranking him tied for tenth in the league during that period. Nonetheless, his effectiveness has waned over recent seasons, evident in the modest tally of 14 sacks amassed over the past three seasons.

In the previous season, Bosa appeared in 14 games, starting nine. During this period, he navigated challenges with hip and back injuries, culminating in five sacks – his lowest figure over any campaign where he appeared in at least 12 games. From 2022 to 2023, Bosa’s playtime was limited to 14 games due to persisting groin and foot injuries.
