CLEVELAND — Darius Garland put on a stellar performance, scoring 18 of his 30 points in the crucial fourth quarter, as the Cleveland Cavaliers came from behind to secure a narrow 109-104 win against the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday night. This victory tied the franchise’s longest-ever winning streak at an impressive 15 games.

Contributing to the win, Jarrett Allen recorded a double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds, while Evan Mobley added 21 points, nine rebounds, and six assists. Despite trailing by as much as 18 points in the third quarter, the Cavaliers rallied to maintain their strong form, having begun the season with a similar 15-game winning streak.

Cleveland’s record now stands at 55-10, marking the fifth-best start in NBA history. The team has dominated on their home turf with a 30-4 record. However, they were without the services of key players, including All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell, who was sidelined due to left groin soreness, as well as De’Andre Hunter and Ty Jerome.

For the Nets, Cam Thomas led the scoring with 27 points. Cameron Johnson added 17 points, while Ziaire Williams contributed 14 points before fouling out. This defeat leaves Brooklyn five games behind Chicago, who hold the last spot for the play-in tournament in the Eastern Conference.

In observations, Brooklyn’s point guard D’Angelo Russell did not take part in the game’s latter half, following his 29-minute outing against the Lakers due to management of a right ankle injury. The Cavaliers have maintained their winning momentum since February 4, not losing a game since their 112-105 defeat to Boston. Other teams that have defeated them at home include Atlanta, Houston, and Indiana.

A pivotal moment in the match occurred when Brooklyn trailed by just two points, 101-99, with merely 56 seconds left. Johnson’s missed attempt at a 3-pointer allowed Garland to sprint down for a layup and convert crucial free throws, stretching the Cavaliers’ lead.

Significantly, Cleveland clinched the Central Division title for only the eighth time in its 55-year history. The franchise’s previous six division titles were achieved during LeBron James’ illustrious tenure.

Looking ahead, the Nets will next face the Chicago Bulls, while the Cavaliers prepare to take on the Memphis Grizzlies.
