PHILADELPHIA — An early goal by Brady Tkachuk and a decisive shot from Michael Amadio steered the Ottawa Senators to a commanding 5-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night.
The action kicked off swiftly as Tkachuk scored merely 24 seconds into the match. He capitalized on a pass from former Flyer Claude Giroux, executing a precise one-time shot past Ivan Fedotov. This successful play marked Tkachuk’s 27th goal of the season and celebrated his milestone of 400 NHL career points.
Throughout the game, the teams exchanged goals until Amadio took control, securing Ottawa’s lead for good with a sharp wrist shot midway through the second period. The Senators proved formidable, further cemented by contributions from Tyler Kleven, Dylan Cozens, and Shane Pinto. This win marks Ottawa’s fourth consecutive victory, keeping their impressive streak alive in March as they climb into a playoff position in the Eastern Conference.
Conversely, the Flyers suffered another setback, enduring their fifth straight home loss, despite goals from Jamie Drysdale and Rodrigo Abols. Anton Forsberg defended the Senators’ net with 20 saves, while Fedotov concluded the game with 19 saves for Philadelphia.
In a strategic approach, Ottawa consistently attempted stretch passes against the Flyers, although none resulted directly in goals as Fedotov managed to stop all breakaway attempts. Andrew Cozens played a pivotal role since joining Ottawa following a trade with Buffalo, maintaining a point streak over four games.
The Flyers showcased some aggressive offensive tactics, with standout plays from defensemen Jamie Drysdale and Cam York. Their efforts led to Drysdale’s goal and York’s assist on Abols’ score.
Looking ahead, the Senators are set to host the Boston Bruins on Thursday night, while Philadelphia continues their lengthy home series with a game against Tampa Bay the same night.
