In a strategic move, the San Francisco 49ers have secured wide receiver Demarcus Robinson on a two-year, $9.5 million deal. This new contract, which ensures $6 million in guaranteed payments, enhances the 49ers’ lineup as they prepare for potential absences early in the season. Last season, Robinson made a mark with the Los Angeles Rams by recording 31 receptions for 505 yards and tallying seven touchdowns.

Robinson’s addition offers a safety net while Brandon Aiyuk recuperates from an ACL injury. Complementing the receiver roster alongside Robinson are Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall, a second-year player, with Deebo Samuel poised to join Washington via trade.

San Francisco’s roster has experienced considerable changes this week, most notably with the acquisition of Robinson. The team’s reshaping continues following the release of defensive end Leonard Floyd. General Manager John Lynch emphasized the necessity of a younger and economically viable team following a challenging 6-11 finish in a season hampered by injuries.

The departure of Floyd, who delivered 8.5 sacks over 17 games, signifies adjustments on the defensive line, given his limitations in run defense and lower pass rush success rates. San Francisco will likely amend most of its starting defensive line from last season’s opening games, with preparations underway to release defensive tackle Javon Hargrave and potentially move on from Maliek Collins through either trade or release.

The 49ers have also parted ways with nine-time Pro Bowl fullback Kyle Juszczyk in their restructuring efforts.

Beyond these roster changes, several players have verbally committed to new teams in free agency. Defensive stalwarts Dre Greenlaw and Talanoa Hufanga have lined up with Denver, while Charvarius Ward is set for Indianapolis. Jaylon Moore and Elijah Mitchell are moving to Kansas City, and Joshua Dobbs has plans with New England.

Other team movements include Aaron Banks reportedly agreeing to terms with Green Bay. The 49ers recently bolstered their safety lineup, securing Richie Grant on a one-year deal. Grant, initially a second-round draftee by Atlanta, predominantly filled backup roles last season and is now expected to support San Francisco’s existing safety framework.

The team also reportedly struck a one-year deal with former Giants safety Jason Pinnock. Additionally, special teams will see a boost with the one-year acquisition of Luke Gifford, known for his top-tier special teams tackling skills.

San Francisco’s only major free agency addition so far has been the signing of backup tight end Luke Farrell to a three-year, $20.25 million agreement. Further securing their line-up, they’ve extended a one-year offer to defensive lineman Kevin Givens and placed a second-round tender on running back Jordan Mason, valued at $5.3 million for 2025.
