NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Saints have reached an agreement with former Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Justin Reid on a three-year contract valued at approximately $31.5 million. This deal was confirmed by an individual knowledgeable about the arrangement, though it has yet to be formally announced. The agreement adds Reid, a seasoned NFL player with over seven years of experience, to the Saints’ roster.
Reid, hailing from Louisiana and a product of Stanford’s football program, started his NFL career with the Houston Texans before spending the last three seasons with the Chiefs. During his tenure in Kansas City, Reid made significant contributions by participating in three consecutive Super Bowls, securing victories in two during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. However, the Chiefs recently came up short against the Philadelphia Eagles in the New Orleans-hosted championship game.
The addition of Reid to the Saints comes on the heels of the team’s former starting cornerback, Paulson Adebo, signing with the New York Giants as a free agent. Reid’s impressive record includes 10 interceptions, six sacks, as well as three forced fumbles and recoveries throughout his career.
Additionally, the Saints have extended tight end Juwan Johnson’s contract for another three years, with the potential of the deal reaching $34.5 million if performance incentives are met, according to his agent, AJ Vaynerchuk. Johnson, who transitioned from a wide receiver to a tight end in 2022, has achieved career highs, including seven touchdown receptions during the season.
Johnson has been a reliable player, having participated in 67 games and started in 34, amassing 1,622 receiving yards and scoring 18 touchdowns. This new deal ensures that the Saints maintain his offensive talents for the foreseeable future.
