Oscar Piastri has secured a “multi-year” extension to his contract with McLaren, as announced by the Formula 1 team this Tuesday.
The news was revealed just days before the commencement of the new season at the Australian Grand Prix, happening in Piastri’s home country.

Originally, Piastri had a contract with McLaren that lasted until the conclusion of next season.
However, the details surrounding the extension were not fully disclosed by the team, aside from confirming that the 23-year-old driver would remain with them “for the long term.”

Piastri expressed his enthusiasm in an official statement, saying, “It’s a great feeling knowing that I’m part of McLaren’s long-term vision.
The team showed faith in me when we signed back in 2022, and the journey we’ve embarked on over the last two seasons to elevate McLaren to the top of the sport has been incredible.”

The Australian made his Formula 1 debut with McLaren in 2023, following a contentious contract dispute with Alpine.
Piastri managed to secure two race wins last year, contributing significantly to McLaren’s successful bid for the constructors’ title.
He finished fourth in the drivers’ standings, while his teammate Lando Norris contended closely with Max Verstappen, who ultimately won the title.

Zak Brown, McLaren’s chief executive, emphasized that extending Piastri’s contract was an obvious decision.
“We’ve got the best driver lineup on the grid, and in the past two seasons, we’ve seen how much of an asset to the team Oscar is both on and off track,” Brown stated.
