Grambling Defeats Alabama A&M in SWAC Quarterfinals

    COLLEGE PARK, Ga. — Mikale Stevenson emerged as a key player from the bench, delivering 17 points that propelled Grambling to a decisive 73-56 triumph over Alabama A&M on Tuesday, kicking off the first round of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament. With this victory, the eighth-seeded Tigers (12-21) advance to face top seed Southern in the quarterfinals slated for Wednesday.

    Stevenson had an impressive performance, achieving 7 for 9 in shooting, which included three successful shots out of four attempts from the three-point line. Kintavious Dozier supported the effort by contributing 16 points along with six assists, helping to orchestrate the Tigers’ offense. Additionally, P.J. Eason added depth to the lineup with 12 points and grabbing seven rebounds.

    For the ninth-seeded Bulldogs (10-22), Quincy McGriff led with ten points, while teammates Anthony Bryant and London Riley each chipped in nine points. Despite their efforts, Alabama A&M was unable to regain control after Grambling took the lead just under 15 minutes into the first half. Stevenson was instrumental with eight of his points coming before halftime, which helped the Tigers secure a 41-30 advantage going into the break.

    Grambling’s robust play maintained their momentum throughout the game, ensuring they held onto the lead they had carved out early on. This victory sets the stage for their next encounter against Southern in the tournament’s progressing rounds.
