BUCHAREST, Romania — Romania’s highest court delivered a decisive blow to far-right politician Calin Georgescu on Tuesday by refusing his request to annul a ban on his participation in the upcoming presidential rerun. Georgescu had previously claimed victory in the initial round of last year’s presidential contest, but the election results were annulled by the same court.
The verdict rendered by the Constitutional Court in Bucharest was unanimous, reinforcing the decision taken just two days earlier by the Central Election Bureau, which had similarly barred Georgescu’s candidacy in the anticipated May election.
