Stephen Curry has become a significant stakeholder in the Unrivaled, a burgeoning 3-on-3 women’s basketball league, joining numerous other prominent figures who are backing the initiative. The NBA superstar’s investment came during Unrivaled’s latest Series A funding round conducted in December, which was oversubscribed, showcasing a huge interest in the league. Through this round, Unrivaled managed to secure over $28 million in funds. When combined with the $7 million raised during its seed round in May 2024, the women’s basketball league has accumulated a total of $35 million so far.

Curry expressed his excitement about his involvement with Unrivaled. “I am incredibly proud to be joining the Unrivaled family as the league continues to set a new standard for how women’s professional sports should operate,” he stated, emphasizing the league’s innovative approach toward the sport and its athletes.

Unrivaled’s roster of investors boasts several high-profile names from various sports and entertainment sectors, including Carmelo Anthony, Giannis Antetokounmpo, young tennis sensation Coco Gauff, Olympian Michael Phelps, as well as actors Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis. Additionally, respected figures in women’s basketball like coaches Dawn Staley and Geno Auriemma are also backing the league.

The league, established by WNBA stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier, is currently concluding its regular season, with the postseason slated for Sunday and Monday. Standout teams include Angel Reese’s second-seeded Rose, which is set to compete against Alyssa Thomas and the third-seeded Laces in the semifinals. In the other semifinal matchup, Collier’s top-seeded Lunar Owls will clash with Dearica Hamby, Aliyah Boston, and fourth-seeded Vinyl. The victorious teams from these semifinals will then advance to vie for the championship on Monday.
