The Philadelphia Eagles have reached an agreement to trade safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson to the Houston Texans. In exchange, the Eagles will acquire guard Kenyon Green, along with an exchange of draft picks. A person familiar with the transaction provided this information under condition of anonymity, noting that the deal will not be formalized until Wednesday, aligning with the start of the new league year. The Eagles are set to receive a fifth-round selection in the 2026 draft while the Texans will be compensated with a sixth-round pick for next year.
C.J. Gardner-Johnson played a pivotal role in the Eagles’ defensive lineup, which was recognized as the top-ranked defense last season. His contributions were instrumental in the Eagles’ decisive 40-22 triumph over the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl, where they effectively limited Patrick Mahomes’ impact.
Kenyon Green, drafted as the 15th overall pick in 2022, has been with the Texans for two seasons, making 23 starts. Unfortunately, he missed the entire 2023 season due to a shoulder injury, leaving room for speculation on how he will adapt to a new environment with the Eagles.
In a related move, the Texans have also made other changes, including their agreement to trade their standout left tackle, Laremy Tunsil, to the Washington team. The Texans now face significant gaps to fill, particularly on an offensive line that previously faced challenges in providing adequate protection for quarterback C.J. Stroud last season.
