MANCHESTER, England — Tyson Fury, a former world heavyweight boxing champion, and Wayne Rooney, an ex-forward for Manchester United, will team up to coach an England squad for Soccer Aid 2025, a charity event to be held at Old Trafford.
Scheduled for June 15 at Manchester United’s iconic stadium, the match will feature England taking on a World XI team in a friendly competition. The event is coordinated by UNICEF and seeks to raise funds for various humanitarian initiatives around the globe.
The star-studded lineup will include notable personalities such as former England Women’s players Jill Scott and Steph Houghton, One Direction member Louis Tomlinson, singer Tom Grennan, renowned Olympian Mo Farah, former England goalkeeper Joe Hart, and ex-Italy defender Leonardo Bonucci. These participants have confirmed their involvement in an event originally conceived by pop star Robbie Williams in 2006.
Also making appearances will be former Manchester United players Gary Neville and Paul Scholes, and England stalwart Rooney, who will take on a dual role as player and manager.
Over the years, UNICEF claims that the series of events has successfully raised over £106 million ($137 million). The funds support programs focused on providing essential food, healthcare, safe environments, and crisis support to disadvantaged children worldwide.
“Leading my England team to victory this June excites me as much as stepping into a boxing ring,” expressed Fury. “As a lifelong Manchester United fan, managing the team at Old Trafford, especially alongside one of my heroes, Wayne Rooney, makes this event even more memorable.”
