A school bus carrying 31 individuals overturned on the Garden State Parkway in Montvale, New Jersey on Monday night, leading to more than a dozen being sent to hospitals, according to local authorities.
The New Jersey State Police advised that 15 people were treated for injuries from the incident, including the bus driver and 14 young adults, as reported by WCBS-TV. Imagery from the location depicted the school bus on its side, with its rear emergency exit open and a substantial presence of emergency personnel attending to the accident site.
Governor Phil Murphy shared in a social media update that he had been informed about the incident, which involved a school bus originating from Lakewood. Both the state police and the New Jersey Department of Transportation were actively present at the scene, with investigations into the cause of the accident underway.
Montvale’s Mayor, Mike Ghassali, provided a social media update confirming that while no fatalities had been reported, one individual sustained a serious injury. He noted that the bus was en route to New York state at the time of the crash. The borough of Montvale is situated near the border with New York state.
