The Vandals, holding the sixth seed with a 14-18 record, are set to face the second-seeded Montana in the semifinal match scheduled for Tuesday. In another semifinal, Montana State, the fifth seed, will compete against the top seed, Northern Colorado.
Gonzalez showed shooting skill, making 7 of his 12 shots, including 3 out of 8 attempts from beyond the arc, and hitting 7 out of 8 free throws. Payne not only contributed on the scoreboard but also pulled down seven rebounds and made three steals. Julius Mims added to the scoreboard with 10 points.
Portland State, ranked third with a 19-13 record, had notable performances from Terri Miller Jr., who scored 17 points and secured 13 rebounds, along with making two steals. Qiant Myers added 14 points to their efforts and provided six assists, while Isaiah Johnson contributed 11 points.
Idaho managed to take control of the game early on, establishing a lead just over two minutes into the first half and maintaining that advantage throughout. Gonzalez was particularly dominant in the opening half, contributing 15 points to the team’s effort.
