ROME — Lazio missed an opportunity to climb to fourth place in Serie A after managing only a 1-1 draw against Udinese at home on Monday. The club from Rome began the match two points shy of Juventus, who were in fifth place. The visitors took the lead midway through the first half when Florian Thauvin broke through Lazio’s defense and scored up close following a chaotic scramble in the penalty area.

Alessio Romagnoli brought Lazio back on equal terms 10 minutes later. Matias Vecino sent in a corner from the right, which the experienced defender met at the back post to score his first goal of the season. Both teams extended their unbeaten runs in the league to six matches, but Lazio remained in fifth place, trailing Juventus by a single point. Juventus had recently suffered a 4-0 defeat at home against Atalanta over the weekend. Udinese held onto their position in 10th place.
