The New York Giants have reached an agreement with cornerback Paulson Adebo for a three-year contract. Adebo, who was a starting cornerback for four years with the New Orleans Saints, was initially drafted from Stanford in the third round in 2021. Last season, his on-field time was limited to seven games due to a broken right leg sustained during a match against Denver, which required surgical intervention. Now recovered, he has recently shared videos exhibiting his workout regime and running ability.
The announcement about Adebo’s agreement was made by an informed individual privy to the details of the deal. While the team has not officially confirmed the contract, it has been reported elsewhere that the agreement comes with a fully guaranteed sum of $34.75 million.
In addition to Adebo, the Giants have also come to terms with defensive tackle Roy Robertson-Harris, formerly of the Seattle Seahawks, on a two-year, $10 million contract. Details of this deal were again shared by a knowledgeable source, as the team has not released an official announcement.
The acquisition of Adebo is a major strategic move for the Giants as they prepare for free agency. He is anticipated to step into a starting position next to Deonte Banks, creating a formidable top cornerback duo, with Dru Phillips expected to cover the slot.
Over the course of his career, Adebo has achieved 10 interceptions across 52 games, with 51 of those games being starts. Additionally, he boasts 43 passes defensed, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. From his early days in the NFL, he immediately took on a starting role alongside Marshon Lattimore, and he secured three interceptions in the past year before his injury in mid-October.
The Seahawks released 31-year-old Robertson-Harris the previous week as part of salary cap management. Acquired from Jacksonville mid-last season, Robertson-Harris entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Chicago Bears after playing college football at UTEP. Following his tenure with the Bears, he joined the Jaguars as a free agent in 2021, serving as a consistent starter until his release.
Robertson-Harris brings with him a track record of 11 1/2 career sacks and 67 quarterback hits, making him a valuable addition to the Giants’ defensive line. He will work alongside Dexter Lawrence, utilizing the coaching and mentorship of Giants D-line coach Andre Patterson, who previously coached him during his college career.
