The eagerly awaited Formula 1 venue in Madrid has officially been named the “Madring,” as announced by the event’s organizers. This thrilling new location is set to host F1 races starting next year, featuring a 5.4-kilometer (3.4-mile) track designed through a combination of existing streets and newly constructed sections near Madrid’s primary airport. The venue has secured a significant ten-year contract with Formula 1 running until 2035.
The name “Madring” was chosen to establish a distinctive and memorable identity, drawing inspiration from established F1 circuits like the Red Bull Ring in Austria and the Hungaroring in Hungary. The name also serves to create a direct connection to Madrid, making it globally recognizable and easy to remember without the need for translation, according to the organizers.
Emphasizing its bonds with Madrid, the venue aims to be a “spectacle circuit,” akin to prestigious F1 tracks found in cities such as Miami, Abu Dhabi, and Las Vegas. The impressive new track will take on the role of hosting the Spanish Grand Prix, which for many years took place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya near Barcelona. Notably, the last time F1 races occurred in proximity to Madrid was in 1981 at the Jarama circuit located on the outskirts of the city.
