LAKE CHARLES, La. — Jalin Anderson and Davion Bailey each racked up 20 points, propelling Incarnate Word to a 71-67 overtime victory against Southeast Louisiana on Sunday evening in the opening round of the Southland Conference Tournament.
Incarnate Word, holding the seventh seed and boasting a 17-15 record, is set to challenge the No. 3 seed Nicholls in the second round on Monday.
Southeast Louisiana, the sixth seed with an 18-14 standing, sprang forward with the first four points during the overtime period. However, Bailey’s two 3-pointers, combined with Dylan Hayman’s successive layups, enabled Incarnate Word to secure a 68-65 advantage with just 39 seconds remaining. A tie at 58 was ensured by Sam Hines Jr., who made the first of two free throws with 68 seconds left in regulation, pushing the game into overtime.
Anderson also contributed significantly by delivering seven assists for the Cardinals. Bailey was effective from beyond the arc, converting 6 of 14 attempts and adding three steals to his performance. Additionally, Hayman chipped in with 16 points.
Leading Southeast Louisiana, Sam Hines Jr. showcased a strong performance with 27 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Jakevion Buckley supported with 13 points and seven rebounds, while Jeremy Elyzee contributed 12 points and eight rebounds.
